Career in Conferencing

A friend of mine changed to a new job - working with a Conference Organisation. The job included preparation of conferencing, thinking of attractive title, topic of current affair or technology breakthrough, decide which speakers to bring in for the conference, decide the venue of the event, design of the handout, brochure, and do the telemarketing list of customers in the world, and make sure that the customer do attend the conference, otherwise, they will refund the 50% deposit to the customers.

The customers they targeted is not the ordinary people, they are targeting the people from the fortune 500 company in the world. They are inviting the CEO, HR, people at the top come for the conference. They have to listen to CNN news, check the list of the new arising star in the market. The most difficult part is to be able to talk to the CEO directly. As usual, most CEO will have a capable secretary to guard the office. The secretary will filter the call and won't channel the call to the CEO even they are available.

In order to reach to the CEO, my friend will have to pretend, and try all mean to reach the CEO. The CEO usually are very nice person. Then my friend will have to sell the idea of the conference within 3 Min's, because the CEO are normally very busy people.

In my friend's company, there are guy who earn S$16,000/- every month, because the company give out 2% commission from the revenue received to the sales staffs.

I can imagine the pressure of making every phone call and the possibility of rejection. The pressure of making every conference a success. You need to have a lot of drive, challenge, strategy, motivation, and energy to start a new day everyday. The reward is waiting for you.

No wonder people working in the conferencing line are all so high energy.
